How to Use Backupify?

In this post I’m going to share with you another useful tool in the Internet, Backupify. Backupify (www.backupify.com) is a website that provides backup on your online data such as Gmail emails or maybe Facebook pictures. In the presentation below, you will know the rest of the sites that are supported by Backupify. You can open an account for free but the storage space is just minimal (only 2GB), or you may opt to pay a dollar for a much larger storage space.

How Backupify can help me?

When I was still in college, I lost two email accounts because I forgot the passwords. I tried to recover the account by answering the security questions, but still it did not work. Those accounts contain files and emails for my thesis, and it was really painful because you’re going to do the rework from scratch again. Fortunately, I have saved some of the files in my thumb drive and still able to deliver the thesis just in time. If only I have a Backupify that time, there should never be a problem because my files/emails will be backed up.
So diffenetely, Backupify can help recover your data on your Gmail, facebook, and other accounts when ***** happens.

How to Use Dropbox?

I want to share another tool called Dropbox, which I think very helpful on managing files. Dropbox syncs files online to your local Computer. It means, you can transfer files to your local computer even if you are hundreds of miles away to your office, but provided you have an internet connection.
Sync what???  Can you please elaborate???
Ok let’s explain this piece by piece. Let’s say you’re working on an onshore site or perhaps you are on vacation in the Philippines, specifically in the beautiful island called Cebu (no bias,I’m from Cebu).  You’re in the middle of your enjoyment then unexpectedly your phones rings, an assistant asking for a customer files (orders) and if you cannot send her the files right away you will lose $1 million every 2 hours. Fortunately, you found out that the files were saved in your laptop. But the problem is how are you going to send an 80 GB file? You can’t attach that large amount of file and send it through email. But luckily you have a Dropbox account and you have installed Dropbox on your office computer. So you just find an internet connection for your laptop and Log in to your Dropbox account and upload all the needed files. Dropbox will then gradually transfer your 80 GB file to your Office computer. Dropbox save the day!!! It’s amazing, isn’t it?
Dropbox is also very useful when you are working in different sites. For instance, you are working on 3 different countries and travels often. But you are the kind of person that hates carrying a laptop or a storage device for your files. So all you need to do is to install Dropbox on your computers in each office (country), upload your files on Dropbox, and then you can work on any of the 3 offices because you have all the files needed. Sounds good ha!

How to Convert Word doc to PDF?

As I have promised in my previous post that I’m going to show the step by step guide on how to convert Word doc to PDF. Well, here it is, I’ve embedded the PowerPoint for your convenience.
There are other ways to convert word doc to PDF and there are existing applications in the market now that do this function. Some of them are legal and some are illegal but don’t worry what I’m going to show is a legal way and the good thing is, it’s FREE!!! Though one thing you must have is the internet. Yes, you should be online to do the conversion. Ok I’ll stop the talking now and let you do the actual. It’s very easy, have fun!

How to Convert Word Doc to PDF

I hope somehow the presentation have helped you a little, at least. And it would be great if you can leave comments or suggestions, I would really appreciate it. Watch out for my upcoming post because I’m going to show other tools/applications that somehow would make our life easier and fun too.

P.S. Just a tip, if you are using OpenOffice you can directly convert your doc to PDF. OpenOffice has a built-in function for PDF conversion. You can find a button in the tool bar that says “export to PDF”. This is true for OpenOffice 3.2, I don’t know with other versions if it has also this kind of functionality.

Have an abundant life. Thank you

Learning To Convert DOC To PDF Via Online

I’ve been working in a Global IT Outsourcing firm for almost three years now and according to Wikipedia, it is the largest consulting firm in the world. A Fortune Global 500 company, with estimated 225,000 employees in more than 200 locations in over 120 countries. It is really a huge firm.

Currently I am assigned in Cebu City office and my team is supporting another Big Company that owns many of the world's consumer product brands  and I’m 99% sure that you have already used one of their products (assuming you are not a cave man LOL!!!).  We do their IT work, such as processing orders, invoices and other transactions interfacing plants from different countries all over the world. Note that I have not mentioned the name of the company, it's confidential….

However, in spite that I’m connected with this great company and doing sophisticated task, there are lot of things that I don’t know and some of them are just very basic yet very useful applications.

When I started learning different technologies in the web, I found so many tools and applications that I have no idea back then that they existed. (By the way I did not discover those tools myself; I learned it from my VA mentor - Jomar Hilario). Learning new tools and applications is just a plus benefit of becoming a Virtual Assistant (VA).

One tool that I find it interesting and I think very useful as well is the Doc to PDF converter. PDF means Portable Document Format.

I’m a fan of E-book because it is much cheaper compared to the conventional paper based Book. You can also find e-books in the internet that are already out of stock in some bookstores. When I have my first e-book “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, I notice that it is in PDF file.

I ask my self why it is in PDF and not in Microsoft word and I stumble with these three reasons.

#1. PDF files are generally more compact (smaller in size) than the Word document and they easily preserve the original formatting.
#2. Unlike Word and other popular document formats, the contents of a PDF file cannot be modified easily. You still need an application to edit/modify it.
#3. You can view PDF files on almost any computer or even mobile phone using the web browser.

In my next post I will show you the step by step guide on how to convert DOC to PDF file through the internet FREE!!.
